"Homeland" season 5 premieres Oct. 4, and fans will see a new Carrie living a balanced life as the head of security in a charitable organization in Berlin, only to be roped back in for a new round of undercover work, which she had thought she long abandoned.

Carrie has gotten used to working for philanthropic group Düring Foundation, spending time with her daughter and bonding with her boyfriend. She no longer has the fear of getting killed in the line of duty. CIA for her is history, but this changes when a hacktivist organization rises to power.

Apparently, the company Carrie is working with has a lot to do with that. "This would be a foundation that would be doing many things that the CIA would not approve of, certainly in terms of exposing material," executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter told Salon.

"If you believe in transparency, the CIA is about secrets, and deals in secrets. They have the strictest privacy laws here [Berlin], so it's the perfect place for us to be based in this Internet hacker generation, the information age. We're in the heart of it," Glatter went on to say.

The new concern of the CIA in "Homeland" season 5 is what is often described as being on the level of the massive privacy issue exposed by Edward Snowden. However, the group will be dealing with hackers who have uncovered incriminating data that prove the American and German governments are conspiring to keep watch on German nationals and CIA assets.

It also seems that "Homeland" season 5 will see Carrie targeted by someone whose identity is yet to be divulged. She, of course, will investigate who that individual might be and why he or she is on the lookout for her or her new boss, who she thinks is the real target.

While everything will likely turn chaotic almost easily, one can't help but think about Carrie and Quinn possibly coupling up. Glatter, however, was secretive as to what can happen between the two in the new season and where the passionate kiss they shared last season, will take them.

"Homeland" season 5 premiere titled "Separation Anxiety" airs Oct. 4 on SHOWTIMES at 9 p.m. ET. Alternatively, watch it online via live stream with the SHOWTIME ANYTIME subscription.
