Holly Holm next fight news: Holm focused on Valentina Shevchenko win in UFC fight on Fox 20; still open to Rousey rematch

With veteran women's MMA fighter Meisha Tate wresting the UFC bantamweight belt from Holly Holm in UFC 196, and subsequently losing the belt to Amanda Nunez, it seems there is a lot of excitement in the women's division of the UFC.

With Nunez's victory, it comes as no surprise that fight fans are carefully watching out for Holm's upcoming fights to see if the former champ will be ready to take a fresh shot at the belt.

According to MMA junkie, the tough striker with a commanding background in boxing and kickboxing is headlining UFC on Fox 20 in United Center in Chicago to fight against Valentina Shevchenko this Saturday.

Its interesting to note that Holm has never suffered two consecutive losses in her entire career while Schevchenko's only loss in the Octagon came from the current champ Amanda Nunez so its a safe bet that whoever emerges as the winner would have a good shot at a fight with Nunez.

While UFC President Dana White strongly disagreed at Holm's manager's decision to not wait for a rematch with Ronda Rousey, who suffered her first and only loss to Holm, it was Holm who explained her decision to stake her belt in a title fight and accept subsequent fights against other contenders in the women's division.

"I was pretty clear about what I said from the minute the rematch was brought up to meI wanted to give Ronda the rematch. Of course she deserved that after all she'd done. I agree. But the issue for me was timing. I didn't want to take the belt home and then sit on it. That's not how I see a champion. I was willing to wait for Ronda to come back," she told Yahoo Sports.

"If I would have waited for Ronda, I'd still be waiting. I don't regret [agreeing to fight Tate]. I regret making mistakes that cost me. I regret that, but I don't regret taking the fight. I wanted to be a fighting champion and if I get the belt back, I will want to be a fighting champion again. That's the way it works, to me," she said.

Former women's champ Ronda Rousey who dominated the women's division prior to her loss to Holm, has yet to return to the Octagon after the dramatic loss.
