Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will be dealing with the aftermath of the bloody encounter in the midseason finale when the hit FOX series "Gotham" returns in February 2016.
In episode 11 titled "Worse than a Crime," the agent decided to execute Theo Galavan (James Frain) so that he would not be able to cause trouble anymore. When Jim finally apprehended the villain, he had half a mind to shoot him right there and then. Captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) arrived, however, and told him Theo must stand fair trial.
After everything that Theo did, not only to him, but to Gotham City, Jim really felt he should not be given a chance to live. Just like what happened during his trial in kidnapping the mayoral candidates, Theo's influence would make sure he gets out of the chopping block before Jim could even blink. When Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) arrived and knocked out Barnes, Jim saw the opportunity to get revenge.
Penguin convinced Jim that Theo would never stop doing his evil deeds unless he's dead. In truth, the detective did not need too much convincing. They took him out to the docks and killed him. Although it was for the greater good, Jim's actions veered from his principles as a human and as a police agent. Lesley Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) already cautioned him to beware of giving in to his inner monster before that fatal night.
After what he did, Jim is expected to reflect on his actions, especially now that he and Lesley are about to start their own family. He asked her to marry him after the whole incident and she accepted his proposal. As much as he feels Theo has it coming, killing someone out of spite is something Jim will not be able to forget in a while. Will Lesley be able to console her new fiancé in this new predicament?
"Gotham" season 2 returns on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
