Google Pixel, Pixel XL release date, specs: New flagships to come out with new launcher

Supposed leaks suggest that not only will Google rebrand its smartphone flagship, but will also overhaul its design and interface.

Reportedly, Google has renamed its Google Launcher into the new Pixel Launcher, and it indicates that the new launcher will be released alongside Google's new Pixel and Pixel XL flagships. According to Pocket-Lint, the new launcher is part of the supposed Android 7.1 version that will ship out together with the new iterations. While this remains unconfirmed, it seems likely that Google will feature new options and interfaces for the new Pixel and Pixel XL devices, given that the two will be the flagship device releases for the new Android Nougat platform.

It remains to be seen how the new launcher will perform under the hood, although supposed images of the launcher in action have made their way online. While there is not much change in the layout and interface, noted improvements include having the quick search bar converted into an unobtrusive button, swipe action for the trays, and the launcher flexible enough to be used both in portrait and landscape mode.

Although there are already supposed APKs of the new Pixel Launcher ready for download, the new launcher is expected to be maximized for the Pixel and Pixel XL. This means that users will get to see the new Pixel Launcher in action when the new flagships arrive, ostensibly by next month.

Aside from the Pixel Launcher and Android 7.1 onboard, supposed specs for the Pixel and Pixel XL include a step-up Snapdragon 821 processor paired with at least 4 GB of RAM, USB Type-C connectivity, a 12-MP main camera, and an 8-MP selfie camera. The Google Pixel will be the base model for the lineup, having a 5.0-inch display, while the Pixel XL will launch with a 5.5-inch screen.
