After several years of being one of the flagship products of Google, the Nexus 7 will now bow out of the tablet arena.
Google previously announced the discontinuation of the tablet, one of the many flagship products that the company has churned out over the years. This weekend, the company quietly removed the device from its list of products in the Google online store.
The Nexus 7, made by Asus, was first launched in July 2013 and is already considered one of the "old-timers" in the digital arena. However, most users prefer to use it since Google keeps it constantly updated, and it is one of the first tablets to upgrade to the latest versions of Android. Fans of the product also note that it is a perfect balance between performance specs and the price, and the stock Android operating system is tweaked to keep bloatware to a minimum.
The Nexus 7 is a 7.8-inch, 0.34-inch thin tablet and runs on a quad-core Snapdragon S4Pro. It has a 16 M IPS LCD touchscreen display that is able to provide 1200 x 1920 resolution and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It comes in two versions in terms of storage, 16- and 32-GB variants, both running on 2 GB of RAM. It comes stock with Android Jelly Bean, and early this year, the OS version of Android Lollipop was made available for this device.
For those who would still want to buy a Nexus 7, they can check third-party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, which will sell it as long as their supplies last. For those who want a Nexus device but would rather go for a current one, most observers recommend the Nexus 9 although this would be much larger and more expensive than its cousin.
