Klay Thompson is undoubtedly one of the best shooting guards the National Basketball Association (NBA) has today but as far as he is concerned, he is the best of the best.
Thompson was recently asked to name the best player for each position and when it came down to the shooting guard position, he paused for a while before naming himself as the best shooting guard the NBA has today.
Together with backcourt buddy Stephen Curry, there is no question that they are one of the more lethal guards there is to date. But on the matter of being the best shooting guard, such is likely to draw some debate.
There are two other guards who could be considered for that distinction, James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls.
Harden has had his share of struggles early in the season, while Butler has not done so bad either. So why the claim?
Seeing the Golden State Warriors running over their opponents right now, it is understandable why Thompson is oozing with confidence. Aside from Thompson, Draymond Green is another Warrior who has been pretty confident as well but with good reason.
If it boils down to individual numbers, Thompson is behind Harden and Butler. So the difference is really on how effective they are on the playing floor.
The Warriors are eyeing back-to-back titles and if they hold up their run, they may just do that. But everyone knows that things change in the playoffs and hopefully, the Warriors won't end up sputtering by the postseason.
Cocky as his claim may be, Thompson has all the right to consider himself that good. All that may, however, not matter if he and the Warriors fall at some point in the future.
The regular season isn't even near the halfway point, so the early run could be attributed to a lot of factors. Hopefully Thompson, Curry, and Green will maintain that fire as things heat up for the race to the 2015–16 NBA title.
