Golden State Warriors roster news: Steve Nash coming on board as consultant?

The Golden State Warriors could be filling up the vacancy left by Alvin Gentry who has been hired as the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. And the name that has crop up in the recent days is none other than two-time National Basketball Association (NBA) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Steve Nash.

Nash officially retired from competitive ball back in March but has since been known to tutor the younger players in the Lakers fold. Among the names that he has been helping improve include that of Jordan Clarkson.

And if both sides come to an agreement, Nash could be doing just that once again over in Golden State with the likes of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

Nash made it clear after his retirement that he was not interested in pursuing a coaching career. Rather and if the deal pulls through, the Canadian basketball player will be making occasional visits to tutor some of the Warriors.

If Nash agrees, it will become a homecoming of sorts as well. Despite growing up in Canada, Nash spent four years in Sta. Clara before entering the 1996 NBA Draft. Nash was the 15th overall pick of the Phoenix Suns that year.

It would also reunite Nash with Steve Kerr. Both were together from 2007–2010 when Kerr served as the general manager for the Suns. Aside from that, Nash had worked before with other people in Kerr's coaching staff, namely team president Rick Welts and current player development coach Bruce Fraser in Phoenix.

Nash struggled to survive a season with the Los Angeles Lakers, spending more time in sick bay due to various injuries. He played only a total of 65 games in two years for the Lakers.
