The renewal for Disney Channel's coming of age series "Girl Meets World" for a fourth season is looking more bleak as the show goes on a three-week hiatus following its Halloween episode.

As the series nears Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Riley's (Rowan Blanchard) graduation, it seems that Disney is not too keen on exploring the friends' stories as they enter their college years, Movie News Guide reported.

However, loyal fans of the show are doing everything they can to make sure that the show continues beyond season 3. Some of them even started an online petition to make sure it happens.

Rumors hint that if the series continues, future seasons will explore the friends' transition into adulthood as they will be faced with more challenges and questions. It has been suggested that the love lives of Riley and Maya could take center stage if this happens.

During the show's three-season run, the series has focused on the strong base of love and friendship among the characters, even when Riley and Maya were faced with romantic issues that had Lucas (Peyton Meyer) in between them. At the end of the arc, it was shown that the two friends still retained their strong bond and this was the core that drew most viewers to the show.

Meanwhile, if Disney does not pick up the show for season 4, fans remain hopeful that Freeform — a channel that specializes in shows for young adults — would continue the show. This is because Freeform is connected to ABC, which was the mother network of the 80s hit show "Boy Meets World" which spawned the spinoff that is "Girl Meets World."

According to some fans, this would be more practical because Disney is focused on shows for girls while the possible story arcs for Riley and Maya in college would be more mature.

It has been rumored that should a pick up happen, Maya could figure in a love triangle with her long time crush Josh (Uriah Shelton) and her friend Zay (Amir Mitchell-Townes).
