According to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is currently closing in on a deal with Warner Bros. to produce and stream a "Gilmore Girls" revival mini-series. The report cites that if the deal pushes through, the revival series will consist of four 90-minute episodes instead of the standard 10 episodes running 39-45 minutes each.

Stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are expected to return as the mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. According to a report from TVLine, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson are also expected to make a return.

The Hollywood Reporter does point out that Melissa McCarthy may not be returning due to her film career currently moving forward after her performances in "The Heat" and her upcoming appearance in the rebooted "Ghostbusters" film.

"Gilmore Girls" ran for a total of 153 episodes in seven seasons for the WB and CW networks. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was forced to exit after six seasons due to a contract dispute and wasn't called back in to help with the show's final episode.

THR points out that the Netflix revival will see Sherman-Palladino's involvement, giving her a chance to finish the series the way she intended.

"It's always a bummer when you don't get to end it. I had hoped maybe that there would have been a call, 'Hey, it's the last episode, do you want to come back?' And there wasn't," she explained at an Austin TV Festival reunion panel. "But that's OK, that's not the way it works in Hollywood where there are rules."

Although nothing has yet been sealed on paper, the report does cite sources indicating production for the revival series will begin early next year.

Netflix has notably been reviving several series that either ended some time ago or were cancelled by their respective home network. Such revivals include "Longmire," "Fuller House," and "Arrested Development." All seven seasons of "Gilmore Girls" are also available for streaming on Netflix.
