George Zimmerman, who was acquitted last year for the death of Trayvon Martin, will be stepping into the ring with rapper DMX for a celebrity boxing match.

It has been confirmed that Zimmerman will fight the rapper in an unscheduled three-round boxing match, which will be available to view on pay-per-view. The date, time and location of the match will be announced next week.

The boxing match was reportedly Zimmerman's idea. In an interview with Radar Online last month, the 30-year-old said that prior to the "incident" (the event where he shot dead Trayvon Martin), he had been going to the gym to lose weight and do "boxing-type" training.

Zimmerman continued, "A mutual friend put me in contact with Damon and provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight loss goals and also be able to help a charity out."

Damon Feldman is the owner of Celebrity Boxing. He had been putting out offers for contenders to fight Zimmerman and received over 15,000 requests.

On Wednesday morning, Feldman announced that he has chosen the contender to fight Zimmerman – rapper DMX.

A statement released by Feldman says: "The match will be one of the Biggest Celebrity Boxing matches of all time."

Zimmerman is a former neighborhood watchman and has been training hard for months.

DMX, 43, is 13 years older than Zimmerman but is ready to fight Zimmerman. He told TMZ: "I am going to beat the living f–k out him ... I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f–k him right up."

The Trayvon Martin case rocked the nation last year when Zimmerman was acquitted in the killing of the teen. In a case that has been filled with racial tensions after claims that Zimmerman had racially profiled Martin before shooting him, the nation has been divided in support of both Martin and Zimmerman.

An all-female jury acquitted Zimmerman for the second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin on July 13, 2013. The neighborhood watch volunteer shot and killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin after an altercation on Feb. 26, 2012.
