'Frozen 2' release date, plot rumors 2016: Disney projects 2018 release date for sequel; Elsa and Olaf to find love?

Will Elsa meet her one true love when Disney finally releases the sequel to its 2013 hit "Frozen?"

Barring the release of official information about the sequel, fans are speculating that the plot could focus on developing a romantic angle for the Queen of Arendelle. Rumors are rife that Elsa's romantic partner will be Jack Frost, who is from another franchise altogether. Jack Frost belongs to the film "Rise of the Guardians" from Dreamworks Animation.

Olaf could also be getting his own true love in the sequel. According to reports, this could be an excellent marketing strategy for Disney as it would boost the possibility of releasing new character merchandise for a female version of Olaf.

While some of the characters are rumored to find love, the same report hinted that voice actors Idina Menzel (Elsa) and Josh Gad (Olaf) are currently engaged in a feud as Menzel's wedding has been causing delays in production, which did not sit well with her co-stars. This reportedly was the reason for speculations that Menzel will be replaced in the sequel.

In an interview with Kristen Bell (Princess Anna) she explained why fans should not be overly concerned about the slow progress of the sequel.

"They take a lot of time over there to just perfect it. It has to go through a lot of development to make sure it's exactly the story that needs to be told," Bell explained.

In a separate interview with IGN, Bell reiterated her confidence that production is happening as it should.

"They have the luxury to not rush because everyone is going to be excited whether it comes out tomorrow or in five years. They're making it as perfect as they need it to be and we're on call to start recording whenever," Bell said.

Disney is expected to release the sequel to "Frozen" in 2018.
