Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch rumors: Money secondary for possible return

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has no plans of returning to the ring anytime soon and if ever he does, it won't be about the money.

Even though he backtracks a bit, saying that he will still have to get paid, it seems that it will take a lot to get him to put on his boxing gloves once again. And if ever there are plans, it will not be happening anytime soon.

Mayweather seems to be content on where he is right now, opting to help build up new young boxers via his promotional arm. A large chunk of his earnings came from that disappointing mega fight that happened in May 2015 when he faced Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather last fought Andre Berto four months after that. In the said fight, he ultimately reached the unprecedented 49–0 record to tie boxing great Rocky Marciano.

Even though many feel that he will still fight on, Mayweather has shot down every rumor linking him to a ring return. That includes one involving Pacquiao.

Mayweather pointed out as well via BBC that all allegations that he and Pacquiao's camp have been talking about a rematch are untrue. He hasn't spoken to promoter Bob Arum, Pacquiao, or even his adviser Michael Koncz.

As far as his promotional arm is concerned, Leonard Ellerbe may be the CEO but he makes it clear that everything passes and gets approved by him. In short, he claims that there was no offer nor negotiations of whatsoever brewing.

Despite his rant, not many believe he will shun a possible rematch. Pacquiao himself is all set to retire soon after his April fight date with Timothy Bradley Jr. Just like Mayweather, not many buy the claim of the Filipino boxer of officially hanging up his gloves for good.

Seeing a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is met with mixed reception. Some want to see it while others don't want a repeat of that May joust.

The only way the fight can happen is if Mayweather agrees to it. Pacquiao has already said he would, so everything falls on the undefeated American boxer's hands.
