'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 spoilers: Travis, family will take to the ocean to escape

Fans who are eager for some spoilers regarding the next installment of "Fear the Walking Dead" will be thrilled to learn that there will be zombie water action for season 2. Creator Robert Kirkman let slip the juicy tidbit while attending the New York Comic Con held last month.

In his interview with IGN, Kirkman confirmed that when Travis (Cliff Curtis) and his dysfunctional family returns in 2016, the story will still focus on taking to the water to survive the zombie holocaust. During the season 1 finale, viewers saw them taking retreat in a mansion owned by Victor Strand (Colman Domingo). The millionaire told Travis about his plans to avoid the undead by riding his yacht and sailing away.

It now appears that the survivors will agree to this idea, as the series creator talked about the main characters being on a boat. Kirkman said that Strand will not be the only one thinking of water survival. As his yacht Abigail takes to the sea with Travis and his family, there may be other vessels as well. He also revealed that Strand should not let down his guard while in the ocean, as it's not entirely safe.

"There's definitely some zombie water action coming up. Just because it takes place on the boat doesn't mean they'll be on the boat all the time. It will be a seafaring adventure," he cleared.

Does this mean zombies can pursue them in the water? Showrunner Dave Erickson was quick to assure the fans that such is not the case, as he believes the undead will not be able to walk underwater. He cited a scene from "The Walking Dead" that supported this idea. Erickson told The Hollywood Reporter that when the Governor (David Morrissey) pushed a walker into the lake, it remained submerge, as if something was weighing it down.

"My understanding is that walkers can't swim. I have to confirm this with Robert Kirkman but walkers can't swim. I'm sure they'd eventually bloat," he said.

The showrunner also revealed that there will be new characters added in season 2, as well as new conflicts and drama. He reiterated, however, that the focus will still be on the internal conflict within Travis' family, especially after his son witnessed him kill his ex-wife after she was bitten by a zombie.

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 is expected to return in fall of 2016.
