'Fast and Furious 8' premiere: Vin Diesel confirms finale trilogy

"Fast and Furious 8" is still looking for a director but Vin Diesel, who stars in the movies as Dominic Toretto, has announced that the film will be the first installment in an epic trilogy, which is being readied as a conclusion to the franchise.

"Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision ... they have been like family," the actor wrote in a Facebook post. "I promised the studio I would deliver one last trilogy to end the saga," he went on to say.

Before Diesel made the announcement, there were speculations that "Fast and Furious 8" is being derailed because no filmmaker has signed on yet to direct it. James Wan, who helmed the previous film, the most successful in the entire franchise, is not returning to the director's seat.

According to IGN, there were reports that Diesel himself, who serves as the movies' producer, wants to be the director for the film. Wan's exit, meanwhile, is said to have been instigated by drama involving Diesel that happened when the cameras weren't rolling.

Diesel is yet to announce who will helm "Fast and Furious 8" and the couple of movies after that. In the past months, though, he has been leaving clues about the plot for the much-awaited follow-up to this year's blockbuster installment.

"Fast and Furious 8" will be the first movie Paul Walker won't be in. Diesel says that the movie is being made for the late actor, who died in a car accident in 2013. It is heavily rumored that Kurt Russell's character, Mr. Nobody, will take center stage.

There is also word that Eva Mendes, who appeared in two previous installments, will be back, and so will Jason Statham, who starred in "Furious 7," which is now the fifth highest-grossing film of all time.

"Fast and Furious 8" releases April 14, 2017.
