'Fallout 4' release date: Game to stay on latest-gen consoles

The next installment in the "Fallout" series has long been awaited, but fans of the franchise who play using older-gen consoles are in for a bit of bad news — "Fallout 4" won't be making it to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

When news about the upcoming "Fallout 4" confirmation surfaced early this week, it was accompanied by the first official teaser trailer for the game. However, along with the hype that the announcement caused came disappointment for some of the fans who observed that, if the teaser trailer is what players could expect from the game, it would not live up to its "cutting edge" hype due to the dull engine visuals. The graphics even led some to believe that "Fallout 4" will make it across all platforms, including older consoles.

However, game company Bethesda was quick to note that the game's console versions would be released strictly on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. According to Bethesda Softwork's global community manager Matt Grandstaff, the scale of the next "Fallout" title is so massive that older-gen consoles will have a hard time handling the game, let alone maximizing player experience.

In a NeoGAF thread, Grandstaff said, "It is not coming to 360 and PS3, the stuff we're doing will never work there."

The next installment in the "Fallout" series is another title that would stay on current-gen consoles only. Another upcoming title, Activision's "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," is also slated to only appear on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition, developers of other titles like the upcoming "Halo 5," "Forza Motorsport 6," and "Uncharted 4" are also planning to dismiss releasing the titles on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
