'Fallout 4' tips, tricks and guide: Starting off right in the Wasteland

"Fallout 4" Bethesda Softworks

Fans were excited as the curtains rose on another offering from Bethesda, the continuation of the highly successful and long-running "Fallout" series. However, as the developer promised sweeping changes to the new iteration, hardcore series fans and first-timers have been feeling their way through "Fallout 4."

What makes this new title different, and how will players make it through the story across the Wastelands?

According to Digital Trends, the key to every "Fallout" game is scavenging everything, and this notion did not change in "Fallout 4." Players must search every corner of the Wasteland to look for junk, as the garbage contains some of the items needed to power up weapons and armor, as well as gear needed to upgrade both offense and defense of the dweller's settlements. In addition, healthy scavenging will lead the player to discover some hidden boosts in all parts of the Wasteland.

Meanwhile, iDigitalTimes said that although the player may come out of the dwelling from time to time, a well-constructed settlement is also a key to survival. Different materials form different meshes in construction (much like in the real world), and some of the materials around Boston will not interact and attach with each other snugly, creating an unstable dwelling. The website used wood and metal pieces as an example. Although players can mix both, rarely will they match for a strong foundation, as most metal pieces in-game have design patterns on them that makes attaching to wood difficult.

Although the settlements and items play a big part in "Fallout 4," TechRadar listed the game's own SPECIAL feature as one of its biggest selling points, and players would need to take advantage of it. SPECIAL stands for a player's attributes – Strength, Perception, Endurance; Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. These attributes play a special role in enhancing the player's skills and abilities and should be leveled up according to how the player wants to specialize in "Fallout 4."
