'Fallout 4' news: Bethesda reveals patch release plans in 'Thanks and Updates' letter

"Fallout 4" Bethesda Softworks

The latest installment to one of the long-running and successful franchise in the industry, "Fallout 4," has already made its way across all platforms. Developer and publisher Bethesda Softworks has been overwhelmed with the huge success, with observers even reporting that for digital sales alone, "Fallout 4" well exceeded $100 million in sales in just three days.

With its huge success, Bethesda thanked its fans through a "Thanks and Updates" letter on its homepage. Aside from the profuse thank-you, however, Bethesda still had an ace up its sleeves, and touched on upcoming treats briefly.

According to the announcement, while the development team is hard at work patching up issues that fans and players have reported in the course of playing "Fallout 4," the team is also consistent with its promise of delivering expansion updates for the title and simultaneously working on those. However, instead of a simultaneous rolling out of future updates, Bethesda will go with a tried-and-tested method – releasing updates in stages.

According to the developer, it will be releasing the future updates for "Fallout 4" for its PC version first via a beta release on Steam, and then a full version after tweaks. Meanwhile, the update release for consoles will have to come at a later date.

Bethesda explained its reasoning, saying that this process worked well with their games in the past and the updates and patches come at a much faster pace. Bethesda added, "Expect to see more updates that are smaller and more frequent, than a few big ones. This allows us to make sure each fix is working right, as any change can have unintentional side effects in a game this huge."

Meanwhile, although not coming out with a specific release date yet, Bethesda also announced that the first beta patch for "Fallout 4" will be released by next week.
