Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) may be softening toward Morland (John Noble) as the latter continues to win him over in the upcoming episode of the CBS series "Elementary."
In "The Cost of Doing Business," Cartermatt reports that the detective's father will once again attempt to bridge the gap between them. This time, though, he comes with an offer to help Sherlock and Joan (Lucy Liu) in a new case they were working on together. Morland's idea is to loan the pair some of his "considerable resources" by acting as one of Sherlock's "irregular" consultants. While the son has so far spurned the father's every shot at reconciliation, he may not be so quick to turn him down this time around. Has Morland finally hit the jackpot with his new strategy?
Last episode, Sherlock and Jane worked on a case involving the murder of an archeologist. He was found burnt beyond recognition with a drilling tool embedded on his chest. Upon investigation, they discovered that the victim had been excavating on landfill sites. While his girlfriend did not know what exactly he was looking for, all trail led to a videogame called "Nottingham Knights." It was never released in the market and purportedly buried, never to be found again. A copy would reportedly be sold for $10, 000. This led them to a person with a user name of IntegerOverflow, who was feeding the victim scraps of leads on where to find the game, but this turned out to be a dead end. "Knights" has already been found and the archeologist was not killed for it.
Instead, he found a couple of barrel of illegal toxic chemicals that a company dumped years back. Corrigan Chemical has been found guilty of improper disposal of waste. Until present, some of their containers could still be found buried in people's backyards. Time and again, their personnel are still being charged for putting other lives in danger due to their discarded by-products. A building manager was especially scared of facing jail time, as he was prepared to hire a hitman to threaten the person who found out about the new set of contaminated containers from Corrigan.
The archeologist, apparently, located some barrels and was preparing to blow the whistle on the find. When the manager found him out, he hired someone to scare the victim by torching his place down. But when the man returned home just when the arsonist was setting up his fireworks, the latter stabbed him with a drilling tool. He then doused the dead person with gasoline and lit him up with the rest of his apartment.
"Elementary" season 4 episode 6 airs Thurs, Dec. 17, at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
