"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'," the current film in the "Dragon Ball" franchise, is a phenomenal success, grossing more than $8 million on its limited theatrical release.

In a statement, film distributor FUNimation Entertainment revealed that in just nine days and a limited number of theaters showing the film, "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'" closed its official movie run in North American theaters at $8 million gross.

The film already made the headlines when it opened in U.S. theaters a week ago, scooping up a $.197 million gross on its opening night. The opening gala was a phenomenal success that it immediately made it to the Top 10 list of highest-grossing domestic anime films of all time. Meanwhile, the limited release movie also made it to the Top 10 overall box office gross almost daily against other currently-running films. On three separate days during its run, the movie also made it to the highest average per screen gross among current releases.

The distributor credited the solid "Dragon Ball" fans who took to the theaters to witness the most recent battles of Son Goku and the rest of the Z warriors.

FUNimation chief and company founder Gen Fukunaga stated, "It's truly gratifying to see how this movie resonated with fans. I'm so thankful to the loyal fans who embraced this movie and who have been with us on this journey since we first introduced 'Dragon Ball Z' to American audiences twenty years ago."

In addition, due to its reaching phenomenal success, the film will have an encore release in a number of theaters scattered across the U.S.

According to David Wengrod, FUNimation's VP of Theatrical Event Distribution, "Because of the ongoing demand from both fans and theaters owners, 'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'' will continue to screen as an 'encore release' at various theaters across North America thru August 17."
