'Dragon Ball XenoVerse' news: Online features not down

Dragon Ball Xenoverse gameplay Bandai Namco

According to a report from Game Informer several gamers have encountered a message while playing "Dragon Ball XenoVerse," stating that the online features are no longer available. Bandai Namco has given an official statement confirming that this message is an error and that they have no plans of taking these features down.

The report cites that the message tells gamers that online services for "Dragon Ball XenoVerse" have ended and that gamers will no longer be able to access the game's Multi Lobby, Timespace delivery, Auto-patrols or register favorites.

Shutting down the lobby means gamers will no longer be able to play against other human players and will be stuck just fighting against the computer AI in the story mode and challenge modes in the game. This removes a big chunk of the game as it primarily focuses on online matchmaking.

Bandai Namco has told Game Informer that the message is indeed an error and that the game will continue to support its online functionality. The company has confirmed that their team is working to restore full online functionality and have since given a public statement via Twitter that reads as follows:

"Hey Dragon Ball XENOVERSE fans! Some of you may be seeing an inaccurate error message. Don't worry - We're not shutting down online support!"

Like all fighting games, the main thrill of "Dragon Ball XenoVerse" isn't in its solo campaign where players fight against computer AI characters but against actual humans. In this day and age where people now play against each other online, shutting the game's online functionality would essentially be the same as shutting the whole game and its community down.

"Dragon Ball XenoVerse" was released on all major consoles on Feb. 5 in Japan, Feb. 24 in the U.S., and in Europe on Feb. 27 this year. A PC port via Steam was also launched on Feb. 27.
