The recent announcement of the release date of the DLC "Destiny: Rise of Iron" has confused some fans, since most of them thought that the upcoming DLC was in fact the sequel people were waiting for. However, "Destiny 2," in fact is scheduled to be released in 2017.
According to the Ecumenical News, the rumors of the upcoming sequel of the "Destiny" game has been around ever since last year. Actually, these rumors were saying that the game was already expected to be released by September this year, and subsequently a possible delay has been popularized online. However, earlier this year, "Destiny" game publisher and developer clarified that the DLC is to be released this year and the sequel for the next year.
Forbes points out that the "delay" was not even true for "Destiny 2," since a release date was never even announced, after all. Only rumors have implied about the game's release come fall this 2016, and it did not help Bungie to keep its silence about it, as the confusion sowed about the release date of the DLC or the game's sequel was so bad that some fans were enraged when destiny confirmed a 2017 release for the sequel.
Regardless, as Bungie insisted that a full "Destiny" sequel will be released on 2017, fans are now expecting that this game will at least be as big as the original game. What that means is that it could be possible for it to have three classes with two subclasses each, as well as four planetary zones. It is also expected for it to feature a plethora of missions, strikes and even multiplayer maps.
As such, "Destiny 2" could either be a full-on sequel, or just a big expansion for the first game. However, with the way things are right now, it would make sense for its fanbase to expect more than that.
