Denver Broncos roster news 2016: Peyton Manning given March 9 deadline for career decision

Denver Broncos franchise quarterback Peyton Manning may celebrate now after winning Super Bowl 50, but a decision must be made regarding the future of his career in less than a month.

According to ESPN, the Broncos are giving Manning until March 9 to decide either he continues playing or opt to retire.

Manning still has a year remaining in his deal with the Broncos and on the said date, the $19 million base salary on his contract will be guaranteed, with his decision affecting Denver's cap space, the report added.

With a lot of time remaining, though, Broncos general manager John Elway wants Manning to enjoy the recent success. Elway added, "I'm sure he'll sit down with his family. Eventually we'll talk to him too and go through that. There's no timeline for that right now."

Elway also explained, "Important thing is, it's going to be his decision. Where we get a chance to sit down and talk to him, that's up to Peyton, where he is in that process, what he thinks he can ... what he wants to do from here on out."

After capturing only his second Super Bowl last Sunday, Manning said he will take time to ponder things about his future.

The 39-year-old quarterback's career became a hot topic when he told New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick following the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game that the 2015 season might be his last rodeo.

As the previous season went, it seems like Manning can still play a few more years, considering the only setback he had was a foot injury that made him miss six games before returning in Week 17 to end the regular season.

In 10 games played for the Broncos, Manning completed 198 (of 331) passes for 2,249 yards and nine touchdowns, throwing 17 interceptions.

The Broncos finished the regular season on top of the AFC and with Manning ready during the postseason, they played great and achieved the ultimate prize in the National Football League (NFL).
