The Dallas Mavericks have added another forward to hone up their frontline with the recent acquisition of free agent Jeremy Evans.
Evans is best known for being the NBA Slam Dunk Champion back in 2012 and the thought alone should get Dallas fans up and excited seeing that Evans could unfurl his repertoire of high flying maneuvers with the rebuilding Mavericks.
With the Mavericks slowly taking shape as they move on from the DeAndre Jordan debacle, Evans will most likely jockey for playing time against Charlie Villanueva and Josh Powell.
Evans was the 55th overall pick of the Utah Jazz back in the 2010 NBA Draft. His best performance under a Jazz uniform was during the 2013–14 NBA season where he averaged 6.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
On whether or not the 27-year-old baller from Arkansas can improve those numbers with the Mavericks remain to be seen.
Evans is seen more as a project player for the Mavericks, one who can hopefully be molded better under the tutelage of coach Rick Carlisle. With that said, Evans could be the third forward off the Dallas bench.
The Mavericks find themselves checking out the remaining players in the free agent market after netting only Wesley Matthews from the list of high profile agents available when NBA Free Agency opened shop.
Aside from Matthews and Evans, the new faces in the Mavericks' fold include that of Zaza Pachulia and Deron Williams.
With their current crop of players, the Mavericks may find the going tough as far as getting a spot in the NBA playoffs is concerned, particularly given the fact that most teams in the Western conference have undergone massive changes heading into the 2015–16 season.
Among the teams to watch out for include the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, and the Memphis Grizzlies. Could the Mavericks at least make the eighth spot? Anything is possible.
