Dallas Mavericks news: Samuel Dalembert fails to make cut

Samuel Dalembert was given a chance to show if he deserved a second chance, but with the latest news over at the Dallas Mavericks camp, such will not happen.

Dalembert was among the four unfortunate players who failed to make the Mavericks roster as the team tries to whittle down its roster with the 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) season opening fast approaching.

The 34-year-old NBA veteran was cut along with Brandon Ashley, Tu Holloway, and Jamil Wilson with one more expected to follow.

With Dalembert out, the Mavs now have three centers on their end — Zaza Pachulia, JaVale McGee, and Salah Mejri.

Of the three, McGee is still on the mend so Mejri will likely be the chief reliever for Pachulia, who was acquired not so long after DeAndre Jordan curtailed back to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Per head coach Rick Carlisle, Dalembert wasn't healthy and sharp and most of that apparently showed during the preseason. His age was also another factor, something that somehow justifies the team's future with Mejri, a virtual unknown who impressed Carlisle and the Mavericks's coaching staff.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Dalembert, someone who has been notorious for oversleeping and missing practices, as reported by NBC Sports. He came into training camp overweight and, apparently, his performance since says it all.

He could eventually be picked up by other teams, more or less a bench player.

Seeing how the Mavs are looking for someone reliable in the middle, Dalembert is pretty far off from being that guy.

While there are no high expectations from the Mavs this season, the team could pull off some surprises. It depends on what coach Carlisle has up his sleeves with the current bumper-crop roster, which includes Dirk Nowitzki, Deron Williams, Chander Parsons, and Wes Matthews.

The Dallas Mavericks will formally open their 2015–16 NBA campaign against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 28 at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.
