Dallas Cowboys news 2015: Jerry Jones needs to move on from Tony Romo

The Dallas Cowboys have to deal with the fact that riding on the shoulders of a good quarterback like Tony Romo is bound to end at some point.

It may not come soon but the fact that Romo is already 35 years old and prone to injuries, the end could pretty much be near.

Romo has been taken out of the current season yet again on account of a hairline fracture on his left clavicle despite a not-so-hard sack coming from the Carolina Panthers' Thomas David.

So one has to wonder how Romo would have ended up had he been hit hard.

The thing is, Romo has been prone to getting hurt easily ever since breaking his clavicle back on 2010. A wrong hit could be disastrous and such was recently proven. Given his age, one could assume that healing is pretty much different from when he was a younger player.

Should the Dallas Cowboys explore future options for their quarterback needs?

Romo could still play a couple of years but the more he ages, the more prone he could become to injury. As far as Jerry Jones is concerned, he may want to consider younger talent to succeed Romo, starting perhaps with the next National Football League (NFL) Draft.

Two names come into mind — Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch. Both players loom as top quarterback prospects in the next draft. But for Jones to get his hands on either one, he will have to move some of his current resources to get a chance at them.

On how he goes about that is totally up to him. For now, the Cowboys need to adjust to Romo being taken out of the season. According to NFL.com, Kellen Moore is expected to be activated in place of Romo and will likely become Matt Cassell's back up.
