'CS:GO' rumors: Competitive FPS to have a Battle Royale mode like 'PUBG?'

"Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" (CS:GO) apparently wants to strike while the iron is still hot, as the developers of the game teased a new game mode which is reminiscent of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG).

Valve, developer and publisher of the competitive first-person shooter (FPS), is not letting the Battle Royale craze slip away unused. The team is now reportedly working on what could be "CS:GO's" very own Battle Royale mode, which was popularized by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene's "PUBG" earlier in the year. Right now, "PUBG" is the most popular game on Steam, Valve's proprietary online market platform.

Reports that Valve may be cooking up the new Battle Royale game mode for "CS:GO" came from an examination of the FPS and its past patches and updates dating back from 2016. Valve News Network has discovered creator Tyler McVicker considering a number of weapons which have not yet been implemented in the game such as compound bows, bare-fisted combat, adrenaline shots, breach charges, sonar pulses, and MK2 grenades. Apparently, these weapons and gear are equipment normally seen in a Battle Royale mode and can even be commonly found in "PUBG."

Apart from the equipment, the dataminers have also unveiled maps which could be a viable playground for a Battle Royale mode such as de_canals and survival_island maps, which may pique the interest of some long-time players of the FPS.

It is also not certain how Valve plans to implement the Battle Royale mode since the standard number of players for it is 100, while "CS:GO" can only cater to a maximum of 64 players, 32 on each team. Even this must be done with a specific command line and game file tinkering. Unless the developers can actually find a way around the game's coding to bypass this limit or simply maintain the 64-player maps remains to be seen. As of now though, Valve has not replied to the allegations, meaning they are still rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.
