The highly awaited match involving Connor McGregor and Jose Aldo is already animated as it is, seeing how the two despise each other.
As everyone knows, Aldo was forced to withdraw from that fight due to an injured rib sustained during training. But McGregor was nursing an injury as well, undisclosed but believed to be something involving his knee.
According to an interview with Fox Sports, McGregor was unable to do kicks leading to UFC 189 but still managed to pull out a win over replacement opponent Chad Mendes.
Recall that it took a miscue on the part of Mendes to allow McGregor to unleash his attack, handing him the win during UFC 189. It was only after that fight that his camp revealed that the brash Irishman was fighting with an injury, which was seen as one of the reasons why he was lambasting Aldo for not fighting through it.
"So I came in there with many issues that I overcame. I overcame adversity," says McGregor via Fox Sports.
The thing is the injury seems a bit broad as McGregor and his camp have not divulged the real score on what it was exactly he was nursing. But it looks like interested folks will get to know what it truly was once his documentary comes out.
Apparently a camera crew was on hand when he was preparing against Mendes. That included a change in game plan since he had to adjust to a new opponent.
But the twist here is that despite the issue, he fought through it and such is now his vantage point in hitting Aldo for not stepping up and pushing through with their originally set tiff.
All that will, of course, continue once the two fighters face each other in Las Vegas this coming Dec. 12. The two have shown the same animosity in a previous press conference, so this matchup will certainly be something to watch.
