2K Games and Firaxis introduced another important playable character just a month before the release of "Civilization 6."

In the game's official website, the influential Greek statesman and Athens army general Pericles had been presented as a new character. He reportedly spearheaded the city's strong economic and cultural growth after he managed to lead the defense versus the invading Persian army back in 478 BC.

Pericles also reportedly brought the united Greek armies to Athens before the formation of the Athenian Empire.

Reports claimed that Pericles will possess the leader ability known as Surrounded by Glory, which could allow the Greeks to have an extra bonus to Culture for each vassal city-state that recognizes Greece as its Suzerain. Using Pericles as the leader will also provide Greece with a unique ability known as Plato's Republic that will provide an extra wild card to the players regardless of the type of government they will choose.

Pericles will also come with a unique military unit known as the Hoplite. The bronze armored group of soldiers will reportedly carry a long spear with a short, round-shaped shield as their weapon. They are reportedly knowledgeable in basic military tactics and experienced fighting using the Greek combat technique known as the phalanx formation.

Those who will use the Hoplite army will have the benefit of earning more bonuses if they will be seen near another Hoplite settled in an adjacent location.

The unique district of Acropolis was also unveiled in the new "Civilization 6" update. According to the game's press release, the hilltop location could offer strong defensive capabilities for players since it could be considered as the most central area in the city. It was also known as the place where most of the iconic structures of Greece can be located, including the famous Parthenon.

"Civilization 6" is scheduled to come out for the PC on Friday, Oct. 21, but interested players can star pre-ordering the game on Steam.
