On-off couple Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) will go on a road trip in the fifteenth episode of "Chicago PD" season 3.
While fans of "Linstead" are waiting for the showrunners of the NBC series to bring them back together, they will be happy to learn that the pair will reunite, albeit briefly, in a trek to Green Bay, Wisconsin. TV Line was able to interview Soffer and he revealed that Lindsay and Halstead would talk about a lot of things as they were driving to pick up a witness. Much of their conversation would reportedly focus, not on their relationship, but on their own backstories.
Soffer shared that viewers would learn more about Lindsay — her life, her family, and her meeting with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). As for Halstead, his family background and time spent in the military would be revealed. The actor also hinted that most the backstory about his character would be about the Afghanistan mission with Craig "Mouse" Gurwitch (Samuel C. Hunt). While the pair would enjoy a brief respite from their usual tension-filled encounters, producer Derek Haas warned the fans to not be carried away.
"For the time being, we're going to see a little bit more freedom for them, and they're going to be enjoying not having Voight breathing down their neck all time, 'cause he signed off on the relationship. We're going to see them enjoy being cops and having their flirtation on the side," Haas said.
Back in August, executive producer Matt Olmstead told TV Guide that the "Linstead" reunion will happen, but not anytime soon. He explained that their first priority in the series is to get Lindsay back on her feet after her bouts of depression due to the separation. In season 2, the lovers were warned about having an affair within the department. Lindsay took it hard and chose to break up with Halstead and concentrate on her career. Olmstead, however, assured the fans that Halstead would wait for Lindsay to come around, as "there's nobody else for him."
"Chicago PD" season 3 will return with fresh episodes on Jan. 6, 2016 on NBC.
