Right now, most boxing fans are eager to see if Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will actually come to terms and finally get it on.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) made it clear that Alvarez needs to face Golovkin since the Kazakh destroyer is the mandatory challenger to the title previously held by Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.

Alvarez and Golovkin have been at odds due to catchweight issues. Alvarez maintains that he will only compete at 155 pounds while Triple G is a natural middleweight at 160 pounds.

The WBC is not expected to recognize the catchweight stipulation of Alvarez which led many to believe that the Mexican will likely vacate the title unless the two camps can reach a compromise.

Be as it may, the WBC seems to have softened its stance on the issue, although it is shaping up that they will only allow Alvarez and Golovkin to face a different opponent but only once.

Golovkin is planning to fight again in March, although the name of his next opponent has yet to be named.

The same holds true for Alvarez who is likely to fight again in May as part of the Cinco de Mayo weekend against an opponent that has also yet to be known. But surely, that opponent will not be Alvarez per ESPN Deportes.

So with the stage set, both fighters will undergo one last fight against separate opponents before their much awaited clash takes place.

According to boxingscene.com, the likely date for Alvarez vs. Golovkin will be during the Mexican Independence Day weekend that is held during September.

If so, this would be a long wait for both fighters. And as far as Golovkin is concerned, trainer Abel Sanchez just cares about getting Golovkin busy and in shape, thus the reason behind the planned March fight.

The same case could hold true for Alvarez as well, as the two try to stay in shape in what seems like an imminent clash happening in 2016 whether they like it or not.
