'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' season 3 spoilers: Jake, Holt undergo quarantine in episode 12

Jake and Holt team up for a new mission in the upcoming episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Facebook/Fox

It is not often that Jake (Andy Samberg) and Capt. Holt (Andre Braugher) work a case together; that is why the upcoming episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will be a treat to the fans of the FOX series. Unfortunately for the pair, their team up will be marred with a rather annoying and painful affliction called mumps.

In "9 Days," TV Guide reports that Jake and Holt will get mumps while investigating a case. Just like the good detectives that they are, their enthusiastic probe on a case leads them to contracting the contagious disease. This will prompt the higher-ups to put them on quarantine to avoid the other agents in the 99th precinct from getting the virus. In their wish to prevent the case from going down the drain, Jake and Holt will be requesting that they spend the days of confinement together.

The promo for episode 12 shows the hilarious conversation between the two. Jake is telling his captain that his new suspect is named Simon, while pointing at the swelling on one side of his throat. Holt is equally comical, calling his enlarged parotid gland Penelope. Will they be able to solve the case before their mumps go away? Perhaps the better question will be, will they be able to refrain from butting heads as they weather their isolation together?

Meanwhile, Charlie (Joe Lo Truglio) will find an unexpected support from Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz). Last year, his sperm was held hostage by some neurotic individual. Despite the ridiculous nature of his predicament, Rosa will try to lend a sympathetic shoulder to his woes. As for Terry (Terry Crews), he will find himself cleaning up a certain mess. Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) are at it again. What kind of chaos have they done this time?

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 episode 12 will air Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.
