'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' season 3 premiere: 'New Captain'

Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) will resume their budding relationship in the premiere episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3. FOX

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 premieres today, Sept. 27 with an episode that goes by a title that says it all: "New Captain." This is the day that Jake and the group will get to know the newly installed chief at the office.

Captain Dozerman has replaced Captain Holt, who has been, in turn, tasked to keep an eye on a whole new group of greenhorns. Dozerman will be the source of the tension in the precinct throughout "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 as the detectives come to terms with the fact that Holt is now out.

"Obviously they loved Captain Holt, and they do not get along as well with the new captain," co-reator Dan Goor told TV Guide. "He has a different set of expectations that makes life at the precinct much harder," he went on to say.

It remains to be seen whether or not the detectives and the captain will ever form harmony in the precinct, especially as they go about dealing with theft in an art gallery, a familiar felon, and a serial killer. Nonetheless, it will take quite a while for the group to develop accord.

Deputy Chief Wuntch, aka Holt's nemesis, orchestrated the shuffle, but Holt is not one to be fazed by such a move. In an exclusive The Wrap preview of the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 premiere, Holt proves that he won't be shaken by this unfair use of power.

"I came out as a gay cop in the 1980s, so it's gonna take more than reassigning me to break my spirit," Holt declares as he starts his first day in public relations. "I'll turn this place around, just like I did the Nine-Nine," he guarantees.

Sadly, this means, as per Goor, that Holt will have to deal with all sorts of mortification as his new job is less about the action and interviews as one would expect of PR. Instead, it will be more of "community relations: doing posters, outreach to schools, sort of the lame non-police work that would drive Captain Holt crazy."

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 premieres today and fans can expect Charles setting out on a quest for love, Jake and Amy trying to make sense of their canoodling sham, Hitchcock and Scully becoming rivals, and a baby shower. Tune into FOX tonight at 8.30 p.m. to watch the premiere of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine". Alternatively, watch it online via live stream on FOX.com
