BlackBerry Classic vs Blackberry Passport specs comparison: Traditional or modern preference?

BlackBerry is slowly clambering back to the smartphone competition by launching two new, and not to mention unique, smartphones. In the hopes of restoring its former glory, the Canada-based company released one that is out of the ordinary and another that takes it back to its roots. For BlackBerry fans who rejoice in its return, the dilemma of choosing between the BlackBerry Passport and the BlackBerry Classic comes about. So this leads to one thing only: a specs showdown. 

In terms of appearance, the handsets are complete opposites although both are integrated with their maker's trademark and asset, the QWERTY keyboard. But the BlackBerry Passport, released in September this year, is nothing like the smartphones in the showground. The handset has a square shape, and its 4.5-inch display boasts a 1440 x 1440 pixel resolution and a 453 ppi pixel density. The BlackBerry Classic, which has a trackpad as well, has a screen that measures 3.46 inches. This generates a 720 x 720 pixel resolution and a 294 ppi pixel density, relatively lower than its predecessor. 

BlackBerry Passport vs Classic

Under the hood, the Passport wows more. It packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.26 GHz and complemented with 3 GB of RAM. The Classic went for a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 with only 2 GB of RAM available. The latter comes with 16 GB of memory, which is doubled by the former. However, both phones have a microSD slot that expands its storage capacity to as big as 128 GB. Both run BlackBerry 10.3, but being the newer release, the Classic has 13.1 that bears bug fixes and a few enhancements. Passport is expected to have this onboard in the near future. 

Camera-wise, the square-shaped device stands out. With a 13-megapixel shooter that renders 4128 x 3096 pixels, Classic's 8-megapixel, which Know Your Mobile stated has 1080p video capture as its biggest feature, is trampled. In terms of the juice, the Passport is loaded with a reliable 3450 mAh battery while the Classic houses a 2515 mAh unit. Which one outlasts the other, well, that remains to be seen. 

As per GSM Arena, the freshly-released BlackBerry Classic is priced at $440. The BlackBerry Passport is around $575.
