BlackBerry DTEK50, DTEK60 news: Most secure Android smartphones unveiled; devices to roll out in India soon

Blackberry is down but not out, and it has unveiled two new smartphones called the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60. The company also dubs their latest devices as the world's most secure Android smartphones and will be made available in India first.

The latest BlackBerry handsets boast about its high level of security. Its proprietary security software, DTEK, keeps track of the operating system and applications. It then alerts its user if a privacy related action has happened in the background.

According to the company, "Security can seem complicated, but DTEK series smartphones make it simple for you. The DTEK by BlackBerry for Android app will automatically monitor your OS and apps and let you know when your privacy could be at risk and how you can take action to improve it."

It also added, that: "With just a quick glimpse you can see the overall security rating for your device—excellent, fair or poor—and what you can do to improve it. DTEK also tracks your applications and notifies you when someone is taking pictures or videos without your knowledge, turning your microphone on, sending a text message and accessing your contacts or location."

Specs wise, the DTEK50, the more affordable model at Rs. 21,990 (approx. $326), comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display screen that gives a 424 ppi pixel density. It is powered by the octa-core, 64-bit Snapdragon 617 (MSM8952) that has 1.5 GHz and 1.2 GHz clock speeds. It also contains 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It also contains a 2,610 mAh battery that can provide up to 17 hours of talk time. Its main camera is pegged at 13 MP.

The DTEK60, a premium model and comes with a price tag of Rs. 46,990 (approx. $696). It is also a 5.5-inch device that offers a Quad HD resolution and 534 ppi pixel density. The octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 820 (MSM8996) drives the device, together with 4 GB of RAM. A 32 GB of internal storage is also included, as well as a 3,000 mAh battery that can provide up to 26 hours of talk time. It comes with a 21 MP main camera.

Both devices will be able to support Micro SD cards up to 2 TB, contains 8 MP front-facing camera, scratch-resistant screen and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with BlackBerry's own user interface.

Gadgets NDTV added that the BlackBerry DTEK50 would be available to purchase by this weekend while the DTEK60 will be ready by December.
