"Bates Motel," the A&E series prequel to the movie "Psycho," is going to introduce a major character from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film, Marion Crane. As such, fans are surprised; after all, with its first four seasons seemingly having a life of their own, the series is suddenly introducing this character, which certainly takes an unexpected turn.

According to the International Business Times, Rihanna was announced to join the "Bates Motel" cast as Marion Crane during the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con in July. As fans can remember, Marion Crane was brutally murdered by Norman Bates in the movie, in the iconic shower scene. However, if the rumors prove to be true, then it is possible for her boyfriend Sam to be introduced.

Marion, back in the 1960 movie, was played by Janet Leigh, who was currently in a more or less unhappy relationship with Sam (John Gavin). As such, Marion decides to disappear from the town after getting a large sum of money from her boss, which she was supposed to deposit in the bank. She throws off the police by trading in her car, and eventually she finds herself to the Bates Motel, where she meets Norman Bates (played by Anthony Perkins), the hotel manager. Regardless, Lila (Vera Miles), Marion's sister, and Sam tried to search for her.

As such, TVLine reports that the "Bates Motel" crew is looking for a suitable actor to play as Sam. It seems that the TV series will twist his character a little, though. In the movie, Sam has no direct involvement with Marion's crime, but some rumors say that the TV version of this character will be the kind of man a woman could consider embezzling a small fortune for.

The fifth season of "Bates Motel" will premiere in 2017 at A&E.
