'Avatar 2' movie: Production to start, plot details, trailer release

Na'vi culture rediscovered in James Cameron's 'Avatar 2.' Wikia

It's been a long while since the first "Avatar" movie came out, and fans of the movie have waited since for the sequel. It is only recently that news and updates for the "Avatar" sequels have started sprucing. So, what's new?

According to Franchise Herald, the trailer for "Avatar 2: Return to Pandora" will probably be released in late 2015. This speculation is based on James Cameron's statement about when the script will be finished.

In a Reddit Q&A session, Cameron revealed, "They're essentially all in pre-production now because we are designing creatures, settings and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks."

This statement was made two months ago. So, doing the math, the scripts are likely completed by now and filming will start very soon. According to Crossmap.com, filming will start December in New Zealand.

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri, respectively. Sigourney Weaver will also be back as Dr. Grace Augustine.

In an interview this year, Saldana shared how happy she is that her character will still be included in the franchise, given that many believed Neytiri has already died. Saldana also said that Neytiri will be transformed in the sequel.

As for the plot of "Return to Pandora," Crossmap reported that the director confessed about venturing into marine life for "Avatar 2."

"We're doing Avatar films now, so we're making up an ocean ecosystem for Pandora," Cameron said.

In an IFC interview, Cameron also revealed that he wants fans to have the same excitement in the sequel.

"I want people to feel that same sense of excitement about that world, you know the fictional Na'vi people and I want them to feel that excitement of discovery of a new world that they're going to see things that they haven't imagined," Cameron said.

"Avatar 2: Return to Pandora" is scheduled for release in December 2016.
