'Attack on Titan' season 2 release date, plot spoilers: Will Captain Levi Ackerman die?

While fans are anticipating the U.S. release of the first part of live-action film "Attack on Titan" — for some parts of the world, its second installment — hardcore aficionados of the series are also gearing up for the second season of the "Attack on Titan" anime adaptation. Meanwhile, those who are familiar with the manga plots are already dropping hints and teasers about the upcoming season 2, with some of them saying that the upcoming episodes will see the death of a beloved character.

[Spoiler Alert] According to those who are simultaneously viewing the TV adaptation and original manga story, the second season of "Attack on Titan" may see the death of Captain Levi Ackerman. Enthusiasts based this spoiler on the manga's already-published chapter 73, where the character is killed while trying to save the newly formed Shiganshina trio.

However, the death of Captain Levi is still unconfirmed, at least for the anime adaptation. Aside from a vague statement about a 2016 release, director Testsuro Araki did not divulge details on whether the anime will deviate from the original manga plot, as what die-hard fans have noted about the live-action film adaptation.

Meanwhile, aside from Captain Levi Ackerman dying, some fans have also said that if the anime adaptation will follow closely on the heels of the manga's plot, then the second season will also highlight the continuation of Krista Lenz and Ymir's story, as well as supposedly focusing on Commander Erwin Smith's efforts in overthrowing the fake king and trying to install the Reiss family, which was already revealed to be the true royal family.

Season 2 will also allegedly see Commander Smith losing an arm while trying to rescue Eren, who in the manga is abducted by Braun, Reiner, and Ymir.

No specific release date has yet been given for the second season of "Attack on Titan," but previous reports quote director Testsuro Araki on a 2016 rollout.
