Apple Watch 2 release date, specs rumors: Wearable to launch in September with new processor?

It is highly speculated that the Apple Watch 2 will be unveiled this September, not March. It is also said that the next generation of Apple's wearable may come with the latest ARM processor, the Cortex- A32.

Based on rumors circulating online, Apple will be unveiling the second generation of its watch this fall. This event will also open up the curtains for the iPhone 7, MacBook laptops, and other Apple products.

Coincidentally, chip manufacturer ARM recently announced their latest and smallest processor based on the ARMv8-A architecture, the Cortex-A32. The ARM Cortex-A32 is a 32-bit processor that is faster and produces better media performance. Moreover, it consumes 25 percent less energy than its predecessor, which makes it a good candidate for small devices such as the Apple Watch 2.

However, Apple is known to manufacturer their own processors. The Apple Watch uses the S1 chip or APL0778, which is based on the older ARMv7 architecture. The Cupertino tech giant may use their old chip, a newly developed chip, or the new ARM Cortex A32 for the Apple Watch 2.

It is also rumored that the Apple Watch 2 may include a Face Time camera, located on the top bezel of the watch, which will allow its users to make and receive Face Time calls. There might also be additional health sensors to improve the fitness and health functions, a P-OLED display courtesy of Samsung, better battery life, wireless-charging capability, Smart Straps, built-in GPS, just to name a few. It is also speculated that the wearable will be less dependent on the iPhone.

With regard to the screen size, Apple is known not to alter much if things are working perfectly fine. Thus, it is expected that the Apple Watch 2 will still have the same physical size, same screen size and resolution. There is also likely to be no round Apple Watch coming in the near future.

According to rumors, the highly expected albeit small Apple-hosted event in March will take place at Apple's own Town Hall in its headquarters, in Cupertino.

Apple has not commented on any of these circulating rumors.
