The refreshed model of Apple's wearable is highly anticipated since it has already been two years since the first generation was announced. Fans are speculating that the Apple Watch 2 will now contain a bigger battery capacity, built-in GPS and a thinner profile than its predecessor. It is now expected to be unveiled this coming Sept. 7.
TechRadar reported that the new Apple Watch will contain a 1.28 watt-hour rating battery; the previous one only had a 0.98 watt-hour battery. This offers a 23.4 percent increase in battery capacity. Two things can happen now, either the upcoming watch will last longer, or it could offer the same number of operating hours, similar to the previous model because of its added components, specifically the GPS.
It is also believed to be thinner, because of a reduced screen thickness. Again there are two scenarios, as pointed out be the report, either the whole watch will be thinner or it will create an additional space for the bumped up battery.
9to5Mac added the Apple Watch 2 will have an increased processing speed with its upgraded processor. A built-in GPS will also be feature that will assist users in tracking their progress with their morning runs or afternoon jogs, as well as assisting users with location services.
Previously, it was also rumored that it will also feature its own 4G connectivity. This has been the foremost complaint of first-generation watch owners, that it is so dependent on the iPhone for many of its functionality. However, this was debunked by the noted KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, saying that the feature will only be available for the 2017 model.
Mac World also added that Kuo mentioned before that Apple will release two new Apple Watch 2 models, but expect no major changes in terms of design.
Apple has already sent its invite for an event that is set to happen on Sept. 7. Many industry experts believe that aside from the iPhone 7, the company will also present new MacBook Pros and the Apple Watch 2 during the media event.
