Android M too soon for Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and more

With the recently concluded I/O Conference by Google confirming the upcoming arrival of the new Android M platform, many fans are wondering when the update will make it to their devices.

Most notably, Samsung fans are already expecting their devices to be updated to the latest Android version, particularly the current flagship devices of the company. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge came out of the box with Lollipop 5.0 as their native platform, and owners of these two premium devices are clamoring for the next update.

For the first bit of update news, it seems that the Android M version will be far along the Galaxy smartphones' futures. With reports that preview builds are already available for several Nexus devices, and with HTC saying they are interested in a customized Android M for their handsets, tech giant Samsung is keeping mum about any details regarding Android M.

Reports indicate that as far as Samsung it concerned, it is focusing on testing the current Lollipop build for its smartphones. Although no specific dates have been mentioned, rumors suggest that Samsung is planning to update the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge to the latest 5.1 Android build in June. Samsung is reportedly already testing out its 5.1 update and is readying it for rollout, first on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and will be followed by other Samsung devices.

The Korea-based company's Android 5.1 update will reportedly bring new features to the S6 and S6 Edge, aside from performance enhancements and minor glitch fixes. First among the new features is the Guest Mode, a feature that would allow Galaxy owners to put up multiple user profiles on their phones. The new update will also bring out a more powerful camera application for Samsung devices, with users able to micro-manage cam features such as focus and exposure.
