Aside from the HTC One A9, which came with Android Marshmallow right out of the box, only the GPE variant of the One M8 is running on Android Marshmallow among HTC's devices. According to speculations, HTC's latest flagship, the One M9, will immediately follow.
Mo Versi, vice president of product management for HTC, tweeted last week that owners of the unlocked version of the One M8 (those that are not tied to any carrier) will shortly receive OTA notifications for an Android 6.0 update on their devices.
Meanwhile, for users of the One M9, Phandroid guessed that the rollout should begin sometime soon. The industry follower reported that when Versi responded to fan questions via Twitter, the HTC representative hinted that the Android M build for the latest HTC premium flagship had already undergone stress tests, and the testing stages were on their final leg. This means that the approval process will be next, and One M9 users may see a December release for Android Marshmallow.
However, Phandroid also noted that Versi stated that the target rollout date for Android M was only for the unlocked One M9. Owners of the device which came as locked-in mobile carrier units might look forward to early 2016 instead as Verizon is the only carrier that is apparently scheduled to also have a December rollout date for Android Marshmallow.
Android Authority added that in line with the 2016 rollout, the carrier versions of the previous One M8 iteration will also receive the Android M update early next year. Apparently, one of the earliest to switch to Android 6.0 is Sprint, which will get its new platform for the One M8 as early as Jan. 4.
