In previous reports on an apparent leaked document detailing Samsung's plans for the Android 6.0 rollout, a previous flagship, the Galaxy Note 4, was supposed to receive the Android M update over the air early next year. However, recent reports claim that some Galaxy Note 4 units have apparently gotten their new platforms already, and the claims have video footage to support them.
A report by Phone Arena highlighted the supposed Android 6.0 update on the Galaxy Note 4. In the footage, it seems that the Android 6.0 version for the Note 4 added some features native to the more current lineup version, the Galaxy Note 5. With the Android M update, the Galaxy Note 4 now has two additional features, the Air Command menu and the screen-off memo option.
Meanwhile, the video also shows how the icons for the Galaxy Note 4 were also refreshed and they resembled those of the current lines. In addition, as with the official version of Android Marshmallow, the Galaxy Note 4 build also has the Google Now on Tap feature and Doze option (for better and longer battery life) unlocked.
According to Android Authority, although the video did confirm that some units of the Galaxy Note 4 have received the Android 6.0 OTA update, it doesn't mean that global users would have theirs soon. The industry follower hinted that the rollout might only be a soak test, as the reported Android M updates only occurred in a specific location, in Hungary. In addition, the update also came to a particular model of the Galaxy Note 4, the SM-N910F edition carrying a Snapdragon 805 processor.
As part of the soak test, Samsung will most likely gather feedback first and build the final version before rolling it out globally. The industry observer noted that if this was the case, then Galaxy Note 4 owners worldwide may expect Android 6.0 to come to their devices via an OTA update in the first quarter next year, reportedly around February.
