Google is already launching the 6.0.1 update to its new Android Marshmallow platform. However, some device owners are still waiting for their base Android 6.0 update.
Good news for Samsung fans is that the South Korean company is reportedly already readying the launch of the over-the-air Android Marshmallow update to some of its current and older-gen flagships, with at least 12 Samsung iterations getting the Android M switch soon.
According to SamMobile, a report from perennial Samsung tipster SamsungViet said the Samsung devices will receive the Android 6.0 update in the first quarter of next year. Apparently, the South Korea-based company will be rolling out the update to the current Galaxy Note series such as Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 Duos, and Galaxy Note Edge.
The rollout is also said to be imminent for the Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge, the base model Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S6 Duos; as well as previous lineups such as the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 Neo, and the Galaxy S5 LTE-A.
The report also included the timeline for Samsung's Android 6.0 roll out in the second quarter of 2016. Reportedly, the OTA updates for Android M will be released for the Galaxy Alpha, the Galaxy Tab A, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, and the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7.
However, although the industry follower mentioned Android Marshmallow, it is unclear whether Samsung plans to roll out the base model of the new Android platform, or the succeeding updates that might be in the pipeline for next year. If Samsung goes down this path, then the devices will be updated jumping over the base Android 6.0 update.
This also dovetails with recent speculations about Samsung's imminent Android M update plans. According to Android Authority, a Galaxy S6 handset was already spotted in a benchmark website already appearing with an Android 6.0.1 version in it, and reportedly, already passing a GeekBench test.
