Observers previously reported that a leaked roadmap apparently detailing Samsung's plans for Android 6.0 update for its devices appeared online. This time around, a newer schedule has cropped up and it confirms that the very first iteration from Samsung that will get the Android Marshmallow platform is the newly released Galaxy Note 5. It also confirms the earlier rumors that the flagship will be getting its new environment before the year ends.
According to Phone Arena, the new roadmap schedule that South Korea-based Samsung planned for its number of flagship lineups is quite different from the first one that was leaked online a few weeks ago. However, the differences are pleasant surprises as the changes signify that Samsung has already started the ball rolling for an imminent Android 6.0 update.
In the new schedule, the status for the Galaxy Note 5 has been changed from "Approved" to "Uploading." According to the IBTimes, this means further confirmation that the Android M environment is coming to at least one Samsung flagship before the year ends, since the Galaxy Note 5 has been scheduled to receive the new update in December.
Meanwhile, although the update for other current flagships in the S series, namely the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6 Edge+, was set back from December to early next year, the change in status for the three handsets from "Approved" to "Testing" means that the Galaxy S6 variants will most likely receive their Android M updates in January, as stated in the roadmap schedule.
The new roadmap schedule had also lists Samsung devices that will not receive the Android Marshmallow update. In the Galaxy S-series, the new platform will only roll out for Galaxy S5 and above, leaving the Galaxy S4 stuck on Android Lollipop 5.1.1.
Recently, however, independent developers managed to build a running Android M version for the Galaxy S4 but cautioned device owners that they would have to be tech-savvy enough to understand the basics of manual updating since the Android 6.0 build for the Galaxy S4 that they developed is an unofficial one.
