Android 6.0 update releases for HTC One M8 Google Play Edition

Outside of the newly released One A9, HTC users are some of the many fans who are eagerly waiting for an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. With the reports claiming that HTC will finally start rolling out the new platform, the waiting may finally be over.

According to a recent tweet by HTC's Mo Versi, the new Android platform is already available for the Google Play edition of the One M8. Indeed, industry follower Phandroid reported that the update is now live and that some owners of the One M8 GPe have already tweeted that they have received OTA notifications for the update. According to the report, the Android Marshmallow update came in at 454.4 MB, with all the bells and whistles that the Android Marshmallow is supposed to be featured with.

The One M8 (at least the Google Play edition) was supposed to receive the Android Marshmallow update back in late October, almost at the same time that some competitors (like LG's G4) claimed to have already received the Android Marshmallow update. However, HTC hit a snag and had to postpone the scheduled release of the new platform update. Mo Versi even went on to announce and admit the slight setback for HTC.

Since the Google Play edition of the One M8 has already received the Android 6.0 update, fans are expecting that the next lineups in line for an update include the One M8 base model and the current M-series flagship, the One M9. Industry follower NeuroGadget reported days earlier that although HTC had many flagship products already out in the market, the M8 and M9 flagship products are the most-used among the lineups, and it is expected that the two will have the first chance of being updated to Android Marshmallow.

Other HTC products in line to receive the update include some of the current Desire lineups, as well as the E9 and E9 Plus.
