Android 6.0 Marshmallow release date for LG, Samsung continues to be slow-moving

Although Google has already confirmed that most Android-run recent releases will get the new Android Marshmallow platform, the adaptation to the new version is still slow.

Already a month into the introduction, observers note that outside of the new Nexus 5X and 6P versions, the process of the Android update is still agonizingly slow. According to industry follower and Android fansite 9to5Google, in a span of 30 days, only 0.3 percent of the total Android-run smartphones expected to run on Android Marshmallow have received the update. Meanwhile, Google's rival, Apple, has already rolled out its newest iOS 9 update to almost 66 percent of total iOS users.

Meanwhile, outside of the Nexus lineup and Android One handsets which are under Google, the first to get the Android 6.0 update outside of Google-run brands is LG. According to a report by IBTimes, LG has already started its own kernel OTA update for Android 6.0, with a roll out in Poland and South Korea. However, the update is only for the company's current flagship, the G4. Other handsets by the maker are still waiting for their own Android 6.0 updates.

This situation is also true for other Android-run brands. Although other smartphone lineups from HTC, Sony, and Motorola already have their own lists of devices that would be capable of supporting the new Android version, the manufacturers are still hard at work on the stock ROM to suit their specifications.

Unlike the iOS, whose official updates (outside of jailbreak ones) only come from Apple, Android platform versions conform to each manufacturer and mobile carrier. While Google has a stock Android ROM for the new version already out, manufacturers and mobile carriers still tweak and design their interfaces and features to suit the Android update, which – as evidenced by previous updates – lead to bottleneck in updating handsets to the newest Android version.
