The Sony Xperia Z5 is reportedly in line for a major Android 6.0 Marshmallow push and all that will happen starting January 2016.
Although there was no specific date mentioned, the Xperia Z5 is indeed actually one of multiple devices announced by Sony back in October.
As a refresher, the models that will reportedly get an Android 6.0 M bump according to the Sony Blog include:

• Xperia Z5 Compact
• Xperia Z5 Premium
• Xperia Z4 Tablet
• Xperia Z3+
• Xperia Z3
• Xperia Z3 Compact
• Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
• Xperia Z2
• Xperia Z2 Tablet
• Xperia M5
• Xperia C5 Ultra
• Xperia M4 Aqua
• Xperia C4
Now, while such should be welcome news, it would have been more helpful if the post also indicated when the roll out will actually commence.
Out of that mix, however, the Xperia Z5's Android 6.0 M release may have just been brought out in the open. A Twitter post from known leakster Ricciolo suggests that the device will be receiving the update in January 2016.

Like other devices awaiting the Android 6.0 M, do remember that the unlocked versions normally come first before the ones tied up with leading mobile carriers. The reason for this is that carriers need to test the operating system (OS) first before they sign and eventually roll it out to their subscribers.
The Sony Xperia Z5 came out with Android 5.1 Lollipop and undoubtedly, a big leap to Android 6.0 M will be pretty much welcome.
Among the features expected include the Doze App, which will account for better battery management as well as better control for permissions when it comes to third-party apps.
While the Xperia Z5 is expected to get that bump, it remains to be seen which model would be next. Like other brands, Sony is likely to prioritize newer models before working their way to older ones.
