Amir Khan not after the money if he faces Mayweather

After being shunned for the second time, Amir Khan believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just afraid to take the risk of facing the British southpaw.

Apparently, Khan is being faulted for the fight not materializing, with the Mayweather camp claiming that Khan spoke too much, which led to him being ruled out as an opponent.

Khan, of course, is not buying all that and so are the fans. Given the fact that Khan was passed on in lieu of a less heralded fighter in Andre Berto, Khan's argument does make sense.

Of all the fighters who were lined up to be Mayweather's next possible opponent, Khan was at the top of everyone's list. There were other names like Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, or even Timothy Bradley Jr. to choose from but Mayweather opted for Berto or Karim Mayfield as possible opponents.

When Mayweather made mention of the two boxers before, many thought he was kidding around. But apparently, he was really serious about it.

With August here and still no announcement, his Sept. 12 fight will be a sleeper. Berto is on track to face Mayweather as the latter seems to be simply going for the 49-0 record.

But as far as retiring is concerned, many question why Mayweather would leave the sport on such a low note. Hence, the belief is that Mayweather will continue to fight in 2016 and that is what Khan is expecting.

However, it does not follow that Khan would have the inside track in 2016. Pacquiao could be considered once more despite their squabbles or maybe even Gennady Golovkin. It could be finally Khan as well. He doesn't care about the purse split, all he wants is to show the world who is the better fighter between him and the unbeaten Mayweather.

Whatever Mayweather plans, it is almost a certainty that he will continue to fight in 2016. As for his September fight, the goal is obvious — get to 49-0.
