A Pentecost prayer

Today is Pentecost Sunday.

What is Pentecost? Pentecost is one of the great festivals of the Church - it is the birthday of the Church. The day marks the coming of the Holy Spirit on the disciples and their transformation to boldly preach the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It marks the beginning of Christianity. Soon after the disciples received the Holy Spirit, when Peter preached immediately, around 3,000 people believed and were baptised.

The following is a Pentecost Prayer:

Breathe in me O Holy Spirit that my thougts may all be holy;

Act in me O Holy Spirit that my works, too, may be holy;

Draw my heart O Holy Spirit that I love bu what is holy;

Strengthen me O Holy Spirit to defend that is holy;

Guard me then O Holy Spirit that I always may be holy.

-St. Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-430)
