Talks of the impending release of the 2016 model of Toyota Innova again surfaced as a video chronicling the upcoming SUV being tested on Indian motorways has made it online.
In a video taken last year from the Mysore highway, the upcoming Innova is seen traveling at a standard pace through the roads, completely camouflaged in decals. Not much can be gleamed from the video, but from other speculations and supposed leaked images of the new Innova, it can be previewed that the upcoming vehicle will still be the same as its previous version in terms of overall size and general design concepts.
However, it is rumored that there will be few key changes for the 2016 version. According to some observers, the 2016 Innova will change and upgrade some of its features like grille, taillights, and headlights. In addition, the Innova will sport a more luxurious and roomier cabin, as designers and engineers have reportedly lengthened its signature car length.
New changes to the engine block will also be featured. It is said that Toyota will equip the 2016 Innova with a new series of GD model diesel engines, and will install 6-speed options for both the automatic and manual versions. Those who are looking to see the vehicle getting a more powerful engine like the new Fortuner and Hilux are in for a surprise, though – the new Innova is more likely to get a smaller 2.4-liter engine.
It was also speculated that select countries in Asia and the Middle East will get a 2.7-liter VVT-I petrol engine option.
As to when car enthusiasts can expect the upcoming Innova, there are still no concrete details, although is can be expected that the vehicle will debut in India early next year. The 2016 Innova is currently being designed and tested at the Toyota Kirloskar Motors in Bidadi, Karnataka.
